For Your Viewing Pleasure | Week 3

Happy Inauguration Day!

I found today to be a true depiction of American democracy and I am so proud to live in the United States. Regardless of political party affiliation, it is so important to rally behind the leader of our country and band together as a nation. I am so thankful for the men and women who have, and continue to fight for our freedoms, so we can have the luxury to vote for our leader.

I'm not saying all of this because I align myself with a certain party, I am saying this because I am an American. And as Americans, there is no better time than the present to come together and celebrate this great country.

Penny Tile Backsplash

One thing I don't talk about much on the blog is the fact that last year Hubby and I purchased a handful of investment properties and have been spending all of our free time fixing them up.

It has been a blood, sweat, and tears type of effort, but we are so proud of ourselves for making smart investments and for doing most of the work ourselves.

We buy the properties, fix, them up, and then rent them.

Our current project is a two bedroom one bathroom duplex unit.

This past weekend, we spent some time in the kitchen and put up a penny tile backsplash.

But first... let's look at the total kitchen remodel from the beginning....

This kitchen was in pretty bad shape. The first thing we did was paint over that lovely shade of aqua.

We decided on a really pretty neutral color named Shy Gold
Then we started the backsplash.

The AcrylPro is fabulous because it comes pre-mixed, ready to go, in a one gallon bucket!

This is what the tile looked like before grouting it. This was our first time working with the circle tiles. We found them really easy to work with and far more forgiving then square or rectangle tiles. We let the backsplash set for 48 hours before applying the grout.

We also use pre-mixed grout, which is super easy to apply.

This is what the backsplash looked like after we grouted it!

And the appliances arrived...

We are so happy with the results of our penny tile backsplash and the overall feel of our kitchen remodel!

We have a few finishes touches to apply this weekend, but for the most part we are done!

The Beauty Products that are Saving my Skin this Winter...

For one reason or another this winter has seriously taken its toll on my skin. I never used to really worry about the change in seasons in regards to skin care, but this year has been different. I'll blame it on the fact that I'm going to turn 30 in a few weeks!

Lucky for me, I found some really great products that are keeping my skin moisturized this winter...

These three products have been my go-to all winter long.

I am not a big fan of lotion. It tends to be greasy and I never make time to apply it after a shower. However, my skin was so dry a few weeks ago, I set aside my extreme dislike for lotion and tried Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Lotion

I love that this product dries super fast, is unscented, and is an inexpensive drug-store purchase.  This lotion has saved by cracked elbows!

I use Benefit's Total Moisture Facial Cream every other day before I go to sleep. This super thick formula is the perfect nighttime face lotion, but would be too thick for a daytime lotion. It soaks into the skin nicely and I always wake up with super soft skin.

With all the wind and cold weather, my lips get super chapped. I love that Blistex soothes my red lips and makes them soft again. I have been applying this at night and first thing in the morning and it is definitely helping my lips from cracking.

So, there you have it -- the three beauty products that are saving my skin this winter!

For Your Viewing Pleasure | Week 2

Happy Weekend! I hope everyone had a wonderful work week and lots of fun plans for the weekend!

Confession -- I have a bad habit of buying beauty products and then never using them! Case in point, the lipstick featured in the photos below! I bought it last summer and it has been sitting in my bag for months!

It is Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color in Love. It is a true red -- not too orange, pink, or purple. Perfect for Valentine's Day!

-- On the Internet --

Victoria Beckham (FKA Posh Spice) wrote a letter to her eighteen year old self. It brought me to tears and is a total must read!

Caroline, over at Unfancy, is doing a Winter Remix. She is using ten articles of clothing, to make ten outfits, for ten days!

Have you seen the movie La La Land? According to an article on CNBC, the movie is far more than a love story between two people -- it is also about the love for one's career.

Last week I revealed my New Year's Resolutions for 2017...

gave a much needed update on 101 in 1001 list...

and shared some snapshots of family time over the holidays!

I kind of want a fitness tracker and am thinking of buying this one

Family Time Over The Holidays

Hubby and I celebrated Christmas this year in California with my family. We had the best time visiting with my grandparents, hanging out with my parents, Kir, and her hubby, and playing non-stop with our niece.

One afternoon we ventured over to Micke Grove Park. We went to the zoo and ended up being one of  three families visiting the little zoo that day! That gave us lots of time to spend at each exhibit and we even got to chat with some of the zoo keepers.

After the zoo, we strolled over to the Japanese Tea Garden to show Hailey the fish and snap a few photos!

I'm not exactly a photographer (something I am working on) and these were snapped with my iPhone. However, I do think it is important to have fun candid photos to look back on.

Here are my snapshots from the day...

We had a wonderful time enjoying each others company and the sunshine!

101 in 1001 Update...

Do y'all remember when I decided to take the 101 in 1001 challenge? You can see my entire list here

The challenge is to complete 101 things in 1001 days! My list consists of goals for travel, career, fitness, relationship, making memories, trying new things, and spending time on "me."

I started the challenge on January 1, 2016 and am happy to report that I was able to complete 14 of the items in their entirety. I am also in the midst of quite a few of the items.

Here are some of the highlights...

-- Travel --

In 2016, Hubby and I travelled to Aruba, Illinois, and Jamaica -- three places I had never been before.

We went to Aruba for my 29th birthday!

We went to Chicago for Hubby's 32nd birthday!

We went to Jamaica for Thanksgiving.

I also sent post cards to family from Chicago! (Crossed #4 off of my list!)

-- Fitness, Health, and Nutrition --

My Dad and I ran a 5k together! (Crossed off #21)

When my parents came to visit last summer, I booked a private ballroom dance lesson for the four of us. It was so much fun and, surprisingly, a good workout. (Crossed #36 off)

-- Friends and Family --

I co-hosted a baby shower for my sister-in-law! (Crossed off #15)

-- Reading Culture and Learning --

I love museums! We visited the San Antonio Children's Museum when Kir, her Hubby, and Baby H came to visit! If you live in San Antonio (or are visiting) and have a little one -- I highly recommend this museum!

While we were in Chicago we visited the Museum of Contemporary Art, which I loved and Hubby hated!

We also saw Duran Duran in concert which was pretty darn amazing. (Crossed off #43)

-- Making Memories --

We started a new tradition -- Elf on the Shelf! I had so much fun coming up with "activities" for Fred, our elf, to do everyday! I've always loved the idea of Elf on the Shelf and didn't want to wait until we have kids to partake in all the fun! (Crossed off #72)

I am looking forward to checking off more items in 2017!
