Summer Reading List

With all the traveling Hubby and I have been up to, I have rediscovered my love for reading. I love to indulge in some light, easy, chic lit inflight. It makes the time fly by (pun very much intended).

Here are a few that I have read recently...

The Royal We by Heather Crocks and Jessica Morgan -- A cute story about an American girl named Bex who studies abroad at Oxford and falls for the Prince of England. While this book could have been totally cliche, it was really dark and emotional at times, as the story follows the couple's tumultuous relationship over the course of five years and delves into the competitive and at times unhealthy relationship of Bex and her sister. From hiding from the paparazzi, to learning to deal with the Royal Family, this tale made me wonder what things were like for Princess Kate early on.

The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews -- a young lobbyist gets entangled in a political scandal and must flee Washington DC. Dempsey ends up in a tiny town in Georgia fixing up the old southern mansion her father recently inherited from a long lost uncle and starts to fall for none other than the cute probate lawyer handling the estate! This story explores many dynamic relationships and gives new meaning to the term next of kin.

Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews -- a famous lifestyle blogger finds herself in the throws of a nasty divorce and has to reinvent herself personally and professionally. Forced to attend a divorce recovery group after she drowns her husbands fancy sports car in their backyard pool, Grace finds friendship and love with this group of unlikely characters.

Dare River Series | Book 1 | Country Heaven by Ava Miles -- Bad boy country music star, Rye Crenshaw, hires local diner worker and PhD student, Tory Simmons to come on tour with him to be his personal cook. The two bond over Tory's cooking, while Tory helps Rye reconnect with his family in ways he never thought possible.

I'm currently reading Book 2 in the Dare River Series, The Chocolate Garden. It is so good!

Anybody reading anything fabulous this summer?

XOXO

Curl Up & Read A Good Book -- The Life List by Lori Nelson Spielman

The day after I took the bar exam, hubby and I hopped on a plane and headed for vacation. We had the best time and I have never been so relaxed in my entire life! I read four fun novels, lounging on the beach, sipping pineapple infused ice water! I hadn't read a fun book in four years! How crazy is that!?!

One of the books really stood out to me, Lori Nelson Spielman's The Life List. The tale follows a grieving Brett Bollinger who just lost her mother, the owner of a large cosmetics chain. Brett assumed her mother would leave her in charge of the company, but she had different plans for her daughter. Brett's mom doesn't leave her the company and she places a contingency on her share of her inheritance. In order for Brett to receive even a dime of the family fortune she has to complete a list of life goals that she made as a child.

During Brett's journey she discovers herself, what she loves, what she doesn't, and what she needs to make herself happy. Follow Brett as she gets a pet, becomes a teacher, and re-friends her childhood best friend. This book is a real page turner! It made me think of my own life goals as a child. (Be a baton coach and an author, live in San Diego....)

Have any of you read any good books lately? I'd love to hear what y'all are reading these days! I need to find a good book for my plane ride to California for Thanksgiving! What were some of your goals as a child?
