Travel Diaries: Washington DC -- The Lincoln Memorial

Happy Wednesday friends! Half way there!! We can do it!

This is my final Washington DC post! In case you missed the first two, you can check them out here and here!

The Lincoln Memorial is by far my favorite memorial in DC. There is something so majestic about the grandeur of the structure and the awe inspiring feeling of seeing the larger than life presidential sculpture.

Hubby and I visited the Lincoln Memorial a few times; once on our Segway Tour, again during the day, and then one night on a late night walk through the city.

The Lincoln Memorial is located directly across from the Washington Monument. In between the two facades is the reflecting pool, which is -- for you movie buffs -- where Jenny wades through the water to get to Forest at the Peace Rally in Forest Gump.

We had such a fun time in DC! I would highly recommend a trip to our Nation's capital, if you have never been.

Travel Diaries: Washington DC -- The White House and the Washington Monument

Our recent trip to Washington DC was so much fun! (You can read about our trip to the Supreme Court here!) The city is is so robust and has an energy unlike any other place I have been. 

One of the things I loved about our trip was not having to worry about renting a car. We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel and then we either walked everywhere or took the Metro, which was super easy to navigate. 

We stayed at the Washington Plaza Hotel, which is central to so many of the tourist spots that we visited. 

On our first afternoon in DC we took a two hour Segway Tour with Capital City Segway Tours. The tour was really fun, our guide was knowledgable, and it was great because our group only had six people in it. 

This was such a neat way to see the city and kind of get our bearings about where everything was located. I highly recommend taking a Segway Tour in any city where you are vacationing to get a quick lay of the land and see a lot of places in a short amount of time. 

It was fun cruising by the White House and snapping fun touristy photos!

Riding a Segway for two hours is surprisingly tiring and my feet were quite sore after our ride! 

While it didn't rain on our tour, the storm clouds were rolling in and we had thunderstorms for the rest of the night!

Travel Diaries: Washington DC -- The Supreme Court

Hubby and I went to Washington D.C. a few weeks ago to celebrate his 31st birthday! We had an incredible time, hitting up all of the monuments, memorials, and historical sites one can cram into a four day trip!

I went to D.C. after I graduated eighth grade, so some of the attractions were familiar, but this trip was really special. Besides having a far better historical understanding of what it was I was looking at, I also have the legal background which provides a new layer of intrigue. 

My favorite stop on the trip, by far, was the Supreme Court of the United States. 

This is where the big decisions are made. This is where law is made. This is the big leagues, y'all! I think every lawyer dreams of arguing a case before the SCOTUS -- I know I do!

Unfortunately the Court was not hearing oral arguments when we were in town, but it was still really neat just to be there. We got to sit in the Court room where the arguments are heard -- but of course -- no photos!

We had a great time visiting the Supreme Court. I would highly recommend it for any visit to D.C. The building itself is beyond impressive, with those massive white columns, but the fact that so much of the law that governs our lives has been decided in that building is even more impressive. Regardless of one's politics, we live in the most amazing country in the world! This is democracy at its finest!
