Five Things To Do In San Antonio For Free...

One of the many things I love about San Antonio is the never ending list of things to do and places to go! Lucky for me, many of the my favorite attractions are free or offer free admission on certain days!

Whether you live in San Antonio or are visiting, I hope you'll take advantage of some of the great free ways to enjoy the City.

1. Farmers Market at the Pearl Brewery: This is my favorite way to spend a Saturday morning! I love to grab an iced coffee from Local Coffee and then scout out a vendor selling breakfast items! Hubby and I love to pick up breakfast tacos or if we're feeling really adventurous, a pork belly steam bun from Ming's Thing. This is people and pet watching at its finest!

2. San Antonio | The Saga -- at Main Plaza:  This is a really cool art installation which projects a video of San Antonio history through the years on the front of the San Fernando Cathedral. The show is every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9:00, 9:30, and 10:00 PM. Bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy the show!

3. Japanese Tea Garden: What a gorgeous setting! Filled with koi ponds, winding paths, and lush foliage, it is hard to believe that this gem is nestled in San Antonio. A fabulous way to spend the afternoon and perfect for a photo op!

4. Free Museum Days: The Alamo City is home to a handful of wonderful museums and each museum offers free admission for a few hours each week!

The San Antonio Museum of Art is free on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 9:00 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to Noon. I love the modern art in this museum!

The McNay Art Museum is free on Thursday nights from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. This museum has beautiful grounds and an incredible collection of sculptures.

The Do-Seum is an amazing museum for children, and adults cannot gain admittance without a child.  When Kir came to visit in the Spring we took Hailey and she loved it! This museum is free every first and third Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

The Witte Museum is free every Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. This museum boasts a vast collection of Texas history artifacts and memorabilia.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum is the one museum on my list that I have not yet been to. Admission is free on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. I am hoping to check it out soon!

5. San Antonio River Walk: Hubby and I try to take a walk on the River Walk at least once a week. We typically steer clear of the touristy section with all of the bars and restaurants and opt for a nice stroll on the Museum Reach or the Mission Reach sections of the River Walk!

In Flight...

A few weeks ago a good friend of ours offered to take Hubby and me up in his plane for a few hours. We jumped at the opportunity and had the best time.

Here are some photos from our little adventure!

I loved this patriotic plane!

Cleaning the windows before take off.

Here we go!

We flew from San Antonio to Fredericksburg and had lunch at the little airport diner.
My outfit details:
Vest: J. Crew Factory (old -- but similar here and here)
Purse: Kate Spade (old -- but similar here and here)

The views were simply breathtaking. I was a little nervous at first, since I had never been in such a small plane before, but once we got in the air, it was too amazing to be worried.

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon!

For Your Viewing Pleasure...

Happy Friday y'all! We've almost made it to the weekend! Woo hoo!

Halloween and Fall Back in one weekend -- this is going to be great! (Don't forget to set your clocks back!)

There have been so many great things circulating the web as of late. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, enjoy -- and then finish out the work week strong!

New Barbie Comercial | Imagine the Possibilities: This is the best commercial I've seen in a long time; I even teared up a little.  I'm a huge Barbie fan and I am so excited Mattel is branding Barbie to be anything a little girl could dream of. It is so important for girls of all ages to believe they can become anything they set their minds to.

I am crazy about this necklace! Jewel tones are perfect for autumn!

I totally want this print of San Antonio for my office! It even shows my office building -- The Tower Life Building!

Really hoping I have time next week to catch at least one of the shows in San Antonio Fashion Week!

Speaking of San Antonio, y'all need to add my friend Ellie's blog Sequins and Suspenders to your list of must-reads! She and her fiancé are the cutest -- plus they have an adorable dog!

In case you need a last minute Halloween costume, here are twenty super cute and easy ideas! The bank robber costume is my favorite! So simple!

Have you seen Kelly's Minted.com Gallery Wall? It is perfect!

Hope y'all have a fun and safe weekend!

Bakery Lorraine | San Antonio

While my parents were in town last week, we spent Saturday morning hitting up the Farmer's Market at the Pearl Brewery and walking on the River Walk

After our walk we headed back to the Pearl Brewery for some mid-morning treats. We popped into Bakery Lorraine, an adorable little spot that I have been wanting to try forever

We ordered cookies, ice teas and a six pack of their famous french macaroons to eat later that evening.

These cookies were too pretty to eat without first snapping a few photos!

Anyone else a huge french macaroon fan?

Left to Right:
Top: Earl Grey | Chocolate | Pistachio
Bottom: Raspberry | Lemon | Cereal Milk

My favorite flavors were the lemon and the pistachio!

Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum | San Antonio

Last week my parents flew into town for a visit. It is always fun when they come to San Antonio because Hubby and I get to play tourist in our own city and take them to neat spots we haven't visited before. We had the best time sightseeing and eating our way through San Antonio!

For this trip, my Dad really wanted to check out the Buckhorn Saloon Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum.

I had little to no expectation for these museums, as the saloon looks like a tourist trap from the outside -- complete with a guy out front in chaps and a cowboy hat ushering folks inside.

However, the museums totally blew me away. They were really neat and we had a ton of fun time traveling through history.

The Buckhorn Museum contains over 520 species of taxidermy animals. I was a little uncomfortable at first since I am extremely against hunting for sport. However, after learning about the history and coming to the understanding that hunting for sport is now a highly regulated industry and the fact that we now have conservation laws and endangered species protections, I just kind of rolled with it. This is how it was back then in the 'wild wild west,' but this is not how it is now. Thank goodness

The Texas Ranger Museum is home to countless photos, pistols, and artifacts of the famous Texas Rangers -- Texas' statewide law enforcement agency. My favorite part of this museum was "Ranger Town" which has a saloon, jail, blacksmith, and newspaper office. The museum also contains a Bonnie and Clyde Exhibit, complete with a replica of their getaway car -- bullet holes and all.

Such a fun time! More photos of my parents trip to San Antonio to come soon!

We've Landed!

Woah y'all! It has been a really long time! I'm Meg... nice to see you again!

I have been crazy busy with work and just life in general, but Hubby and I have some very exciting news to announce!

Last week we closed on a parcel of land!

2.18 acres on the outskirts of San Antonio!

The plan is to save up and start building in about three years!

The lot is slightly wooded with some great trees that we will definitely keep on the property.

We love that everything is green and lush!

How pretty is that!

We've been over to our lot a few times since we've closed on the property. We've gone on walks in our new (very hilly) neighborhood and even once to see if the clicker to the gate worked!

While we won't be building for quite some time we are eager to start designing our dream house! I'll be posting some of our current inspiration soon!

Cocktail Attire

This Saturday, Hubby and I will be attending the Woodlawn Theatre's First Annual Gala! I am a member of the Board of Directors at the Woodlawn Theatre and I am so excited for this event! The theatre is revealing its 2015 Season with songs from each of the musicals that will be performed next year!

The event calls for cocktail attire! I love any excuse to get all fancy and glam!

I already have my dress and shoes picked out (pictures coming soon!), but I still wanted to "window shop" to see what was out there!

Here are a few of my favorite cocktail dresses!

Getting dressed up is so much fun! Which dress is your favorite? Chime in with a comment below!

Spring To-Do List Update #1 - Bikes & Smoothies

A few weeks ago I posted my Spring to Do List -- a list of 20 things I want to accomplish between the first day of Spring and the First Day of Summer! (Click here to see my list!)

I am happy to report that last weekend I checked two items off of my list:

5. Ride bikes on the River Walk.

16. Try the fresh juices at Farm to Juice or Juice Central!

We rode bikes on the Riverwalk last year when Kir came to visit and we had so much fun! This time, instead of just a day pass, we decided to purchase the annual pass for B-Cycle San Antonio! Bike kiosks are located all over the city and now, with just the swipe of a card, we can rent a bike for up to an hour at a time and cruise around whenever we want for the next year!

We rode for hours last Sunday afternoon (you just have to re-dock your bike within an hour at a kiosk and then you can check it right back out again) and logged about 18 miles. The weather was heavenly - sunny, with a slight breeze, and the smell of blue bonnets in the air.

We rode from down town to Mission Espada and back. To see our route, click here!

Hubby and I also tried the Juice Central in Alamo Heights. I found the store to be very aesthetically pleasing, decorated in hues of grass green, white, and earthy brown. It also smelled delicious - like fresh citrus fruit and wheat grass!

I ordered the Super C Blast, but was given the Anti-Oxidant Power. I should have told the staff that they got my order wrong, but since I had never been to Juice Central before I decided to try what they made me. The Anti-Oxidant Power, made with apple juice, acai berry, strawberry, blueberry, and goji berries, is delicious. I even felt healthier after drinking this smoothie!

I prefer citrus over berries, so if I go back I will order (and make sure I am given) the Super C Blast, which is chalk full of grapefruit, pineapple, strawberries, orange juice.

Hope your Spring is in full swing! What have you been up to? Chime in with a comment below!

Photo Diary Friday -- Snapshots of The San Antonio Riverwalk

Happy Friday Y'all!

Kir and I are excited to present a new, bi-monthly series: Photo Diary Friday!

We'll be posting a wide variety of photos, from where we live, to where we work, to where we play!

Today I wanted to share a shot of my office building and the sections of the River Walk I see as I am running to and from the Court House and other errands downtown.

This is the historic Tower Life Building. My office is on the 8th floor. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful building to work in.

This is my view of the San Antonio River Walk when I walk to the Bexar County Court House.

The lovely San Antonio River Walk! This is one of my views when I walk back from the Bexar County Court House.

Downtown San Antonio houses a number of theaters. I pass the Aztec Theater en route to Starbucks.

This is a view of the more "tourist-y" part of the River Walk. Those boats offer visitors a guided tour of the river. Hubby and I love to take out of town visitors on the boat tour.

Hope you enjoyed a brief tour of the views I encounter on a daily basis. Have any of y'all been to San Antonio? Did you visit the River Walk? Let me know in the comments below!

Spring To-Do List

Tomorrow, March 20th, is the first day of Spring! I hope this means lots of warm weather, sunshine, strolls on the river walk, running outdoors, and the chance to wear some cute skirts and dresses!

I had high hopes for fall and then fall came and went and I didn't do half of the things I had planned on doing (That can of pumpkin for pumpkin muffins is still sitting in my pantry... sadness). I guess I wore a lot of scarves -- that should count for something, right?

I decided to make a list of all the fun "spring things" I hope to accomplish between March 20th and June 21st -- the first official day of summer.

Here it goes...

1. Get cupcakes from Bird Bakery (April 12)

2. Go to the Farmers Market at the Pearl Brewery.

3. Bake fresh berry scones for breakfast.

4. Plant something.

5. Ride bikes on the River Walk.    (March 30)

6. Dust the cob webs off of my golf clubs.

7. Clean out my closet and dresser.

8. Create a fun Easter tradition.

9. Invite friends over for brunch.

10. Experiment with lip stick.

11. Have an adventure here.

12. Take advantage of free museum days at the Witte, San Antonio Museum of Art, and the McNay!

13. Movies in the Park and Shakespeare in the Park at the Botanical Gardens.

14.  Bake French macaroons (or try them at Bakery Lorraine)

15. Have a girl's night here!

16. Try the fresh juices at Farm to Juice or Juice Central!   (March 29)

17. Finish decorating my office.

18. Choose a hair style and get a hair cut. (April 4)

19. Prepare a "guest space" in my apartment for my mom's visit.

20.  Work out before work 5 times.

I'll keep y'all posted as I check these items off of my list!

What are your plans for this fabulous season?

Happy Spring!

XOXO
Meg
